Maumtrasna mountain (meaning pass across) is sculpted from glacial erosion into narrow steep valleys featuring many corries, streams, and gullies. The streams have many inviting waterfalls and pool sections and the route to the top has some excellent views of Lough Mask and Joyce Country. The vast plateau at the top is relatively flat and the walk drops down along the Glennacally River with spectacular views of the Erriff Valley and the Devils Mother and Sheeffry Mountains.
